Make Work Fair medium

Update 15th September 2022:

Due to the extra public holiday to commemorate the passing of the Queen,  Unite Union has needed to change the date of our Annual General Meeting and Conference. The conference will now be:

Tuesday 11th & Wednesday 12th October
at Sorrento in the Park
One Tree Hill Domain, Royal Oak, Auckland

We will still be launching our campaign for a Fair Pay Agreement for Hospitality workers with guest speakers, workshops and a BBQ on the Tuesday evening.

We have received two remits. There is a package of rule changes from The Executive and a remit about Tikanga Maori from Co-president Xavier Walsh. You can view these here.

One nomination for Co-president was received: Xavier Walsh (McDonald's).

Nominations for the Exec will remain open until 12th October .

Due to the last minute change of venue, the final agenda will be confirmed later, along with some explanatory papers about the proposed rule changes.

Delegates will be attending from all over the country to participate in training workshops, discussions about the future of unionism and Unite, and to elect National Officers and Unite's National Executive, the leading body of the union.

One focus of the conference will be on Unite's proposed Hospo Fair Pay Agreement, which will cover all hospitality workers (working in bars, cafes, restaurants, takeaways etc). We are keen to have workers attend who are interested in organising to get better pay and conditions across the whole sector. If you know someone who might be keen let us know their details.

The AGM part of the conference  will be split into two parts:

  • Part One: 11am on Tuesday 11th October
    1. Apologies
    2. Minutes of Previous AGM
    3. Co-Presidents Report
    4. Secretary’s Report
    5. Financial Report
    6. Remits, including changes to rules and election processes (Unite's current rules are here).

  • Part Two: 1pm on Wednesday 12th October
    7. Election of Officers: Co-president  (2 year term)
    8. Election of Executive - elected positions (numbers depend on remit votes from first day).
    10. General Business

All members are entitled to attend the AGM as an observer, but voting representatives will be delegates from their worksite.

The Unite Executive has set the following voting representation at the AGM:

  • sites with 20-50 members - 1 delegate
  • sites with 51-99 members - 2 delegates
  • sites with 100+ members - 2 delegates plus 1 per 50 additional members
  • plus 60 other delegates from smaller sites.

As the conference is primarily training for delegates, priority for attendance at the conference will be for delegates who have not yet undertaken delegate training. If you are a delegate interested in attending please contact your Unite organiser (contact details here ).

Nominations for the Executive can be downloaded here but do not close until the second day of the conference (10am on Tuesday 12th). Please read the second page of the nomination form carefully before submitting a nomination.
