Resolution of dispute with AHS

Unite has been supporting a number of workers who have complained they have been underpaid, worked long hours and had inadequate breaks.

Whilst these workers worked at the Grand Mercure Wellington, they were employed by AHS Hospitality and not by the hotel. The hotel had no visibility of payroll related procedures which are the responsibility of AHS.

When the complaints were raised with AHS, AHS immediately arranged for an independent investigation to be undertaken and has worked with Unite to resolve the workers issues in a timely manner.

The recent discussions between Unite and AHS have led to a resolution of the issues with the workers. As these workers were interns undertaking work experience, AHS has also undertaken to ensure they are able to complete their internship and meet their course requirements.

AHS has committed to process improvements, to ensure these issues do not recur or are identified and resolved at an early stage.
