Delegate Training day paves the way for new Unite education
We were very pleased with the delegate training day we held on 28 February. The day was attended by 70 delegates and members and was the last opportunity to use EREL leave from 2006.
This meant there were several sites we could not invite delegates from because the EREL leave allocation for 2006 had already been used. Our 2007 allocation will be available shortly and along with it is a much extended range of courses education and training courses Unite will be able to offer members.
We have been given funding to provide more than 30 two-hour courses along with several full day courses during the year.
This will enable us to involve a much greater number of our members. For example we will be looking to ouragise within induistriries as well as geographical areas. For example we could run specialised training for delegates from call centres across Auckland or for fast-food workers from West Auckland.
We are excited about the range of courses and the greater flexibility the new funding will give.
Feedback from members on our 28 February training day:
Here are some of the responses given on the evaluation forms...
The best part of the programme for me was:
“Knowing my rights as an employee”
“Learning about the ways to be an effective delegate”
“Meeting other industry delegates”
“John’s class - forgot his name”
“Opportunity to network with other delegates in my industry”
“Workshops and I must say the food was great”
“Getting handouts in simple English”
“I’m more aware now of my rights and duties”
“Meeting everyone”
“The feeling of support”
“Meeting other members who are thinking of becoming delegates. The atmosphere was awesome”
“I enjoyed the workshop after lunch when we could brainstorm in a group. I also found the international issues very interesting but also in relation to New Zealand”
“Getting my issues heard”
“Reasonable break times - nice food!”
“The kai - well catered”
“The ‘whole’ programme was excellent from my view”
“Learning more about strife in other workplaces”
“Workshops and meeting girls!”
“Knowing that little bit more about the Holidays Act”
“Meeting new people and seeing old faces and learning new things”
